Breakfast
with Eduardo Sojo
Chief Economic Advisor of the Mexican Government
On September 2003, Wharton alumni in
Mexico City had the opportunity to attend a presentation by Dr Eduardo Sojo,
Chief Economic Advisor to the President of Mexico, about economic
perspectives and challenges for the country during the rest of the current
administration (2000-2006).

In his presentation, Dr Sojo, who
is also a Penn alumni, but from the economics school, asserted to the more
than 80 people attendance, that three economic reforms were considered
critical by President Fox to attain the aggressive economic growth goals set
for his administration. These reforms are: the fiscal reform; the energy
sector reform; and the labor market reform.
Dr Sojo also evaluated the previous
performance of the main macro-economic indicators in Mexico and presented a
positive outlook for years to come, assuming advancements were achieved in
the reforms areas mentioned above.
After Dr Sojo’s words, several
Wharton alumni inquired him about key issues in the reforms’ implementation,
like potential opposition-controlled congress support, which sparked an
informed point-of-view sharing experience that enriched even more this
top-level venue. The event was patronized by Citibank Mexico, thanks to
Julio De Quesada, an alumni who is also a bank director based in Mexico
City. |
